It's not easy to get into because like mad of people don't make it through pre-med, medical college, internship, residency and finally their specialty. How much you're paid and how many job are available depends on your location and whether or not you're willing to relocate. Once you've made it through all the schooling and are settled surrounded by, your pay can be very substantial, sometimes contained by the 6-figures range. But to be honest, the first maybe 10 years, you'll be paying stale student loans and will have to work to establish yourself, and possibly go into private practice. So if you're inclined to go the distance, it can be very rewarding.
